Crema's Take

Penelope's Cafe strikes that sweet spot between casual neighborhood gathering place and serious about their craft, where you'll find genuinely welcoming staff alongside thoughtfully executed drinks like their Golden Hour latte and matcha tea, plus brunch standouts like cilantro verde chilaquiles. The vibe is relaxed and photogenic without feeling forced, with ample parking and a menu that spans from traditional coffee drinks to creative specialties, making it equally good for a solo coffee session or lingering brunch with friends. Whether you're stopping by for a chocolate croissant or settling in for a full breakfast, the warmth of the place and the quality of what arrives at your table keeps people coming back.

We're content creators who recently took a trip to Austin to try different restaurants, and unfortunately this was one of the worst experiences of the trip and a disappointing way to end it. My fiancé and I were just looking for a place to grab a quick bite before heading out. When we arrived, we were only offered a buffet, but the price was never mentioned beforehand, which I've honestly never experienced at a buffet. The food options were very limited and not great. Between the two of us we got about three plates total, and by the third plate we barely ate because we realized the food just wasn't for us, which we were okay with. While I stepped away to use the restroom, the owner approached my fiancé and asked if the food was okay. Even though she didn't really enjoy it, she politely said yes to be respectful. His response was, "Well there's still food on your plate, why is there still food? it's a waste" which made her uncomfortable. Then as we were leaving, he approached me and asked the same question, which made the situation feel bigger than it needed to be. Paying almost $100 for two people for that experience felt pretty outrageous, especially without being told about the ego or price beforehand . I hope this feedback helps improve things moving forward. Thank you for the service though, and God bless.

I cannot recommend Penelope’s enough! From the moment I walked in, the service was excellent. The staff was warm, attentive, and made me feel genuinely welcome. But the food... wow. It honestly transported me back to my childhood. The flavors were so authentic and comforting, it felt exactly like I was sitting at my grandma’s kitchen table in Mexico having breakfast. You can taste the love in the cooking. If you are looking for real, homemade flavor and great hospitality, this is the place. I will definitely be coming back!

Very warm and welcoming atmosphere with pretty good food for the price. I had the concho chocolate crossaint and coffee to start. The croissant was perfectly baked and the chocolate flavor was from the dried chocolate concho ingredient on top - I think I prefer this over a regular chocolate croissant. The coffee was Columbia and very good. For my main course I had the chilaquiles with extra brisket. That was very good as well and the brisket was perfectly tender. I left with a $20 bill and a very pleasant experience.

I found this place thanks to a Tiktok while looking where to eat in Austin. The environment was very cute and calm. The food was delicious; I personally am not a fan of totopos as chilaquiles, but Chilaquiles were well prepared. Sergio was our server, he was kind and patience, did a wonderful job helping us with the food and everything. Please, if you have a chance, try the conchas croissants. They are superb!
