Crema's Take

Tucked into Marfa's minimalist landscape, The Sentinel is a desert chic sanctuary where thoughtfully crafted espresso drinks—particularly their beloved Spanish latte—meet an unexpectedly robust breakfast menu that rivals the coffee itself. With its spacious, uniquely decorated interior and outdoor seating, it's become an essential gathering spot for both locals and travelers who are relieved to find a place actually open for morning and midday meals throughout the week. Reviewers consistently praise the quality of execution here, whether you're ordering a meticulously pulled shot or settling in with a pastry and your laptop for hours.

We went here on our last day in town and should have been going the whole trip. If I could have bought a gallon of the spanish latte I absolutely would have. We both had the breakfast plate and it was delicious and definitely hot and fresh. The inside of building is stunning and very serene, there seemed to be a few people remote working in the space. Would definitely recommend.

very cute coffee shop. arrived and we’re looking for chai’s but they didn’t have any. i got an iced mocha instead and it was probably one of the better ones i’ve ever had. we asked if they had lemonade for my daughters and they didn’t but the barista said he could make something for them. it ended up being like a lemon/limeade and was absolutely delicious! one of the highlights of our day in marfa.

I always try to support local coffee shops when traveling but it is usually met with Hester regret. I must say I was pleasantly surprised to have received the most delicious latte I’ve ever had. Very friendly staff, almost immediate service and a really cool atmosphere with indoor outdoor seating plus books and gifts inside for sale.

Aesthetically, it embodies desert chic at its best. As one of the few places (if not only) that are open for breakfast and lunch Monday through Wednesday in Marfa – it gets the job done. The beverages are excellent. The breakfast is ok. It’s a beautiful place to linger, work from a laptop or write in a journal. I appreciate that it alerts patrons that food/bev purchases support the local newspaper it produces. Print is NOT dead – in Marfa, Tx.
