Vin Center Coffee Shop

37-39 S St, Newark, NJ

Crema's Take

Vin Center Coffee Shop has carved out a unique niche in Newark by transforming a former Spanish-speaking church into a welcoming gathering spot where traditional drinks and leisurely conversation take center stage. The space clearly resonates with regulars who appreciate its distinctive character and sense of history, though reviews suggest the service and pricing can be inconsistent—it's a place where the vibe and community feel matter more than polished execution. If you're seeking an unpretentious spot with real personality for a long sit and unhurried time with friends, this is worth experiencing despite its rough edges.

By the Heavenly Father's grace, it was my 1st time eating out of there and I only went for the food, although I didn't mind seeing and meeting the people of the restaurant. My God given experience was cool. Have no complaints. Went type early, so it was only me and 2 other guys present there. I ordered my food to go and my food/ order was delicious.

Food is not bad but way overpriced for the area. Also, they need a better sense of business. Every time you go to eat there, they have kids running around like it is some kind of daycare. I have never seen any type of restaurant running like that. It almost seems like the girls who work there simply do not care to provide great customer service. The people are sweet and very humble and hardworking but business is business.

Probably the worst place ive been to. Staff didnt have any kind of customer service. Didn't ask if we wanted drinks. If we want something we have to get up and look for something in the fridge. The utensils were all uncleaned. The waitress had this nasty look and they all hid in the kitchen. Didnt want to pick up soup bowls when bringing the main dish. Just horrible. El peor lugar para comer. Servicio pésimo, cucharas sucias. No recogen los platos vacíos antes de server el almuerzo. Nunca te ofrece una bebida. Y se escoden en la cocina. Comida calentada. NO VAYAS AHI! Mejor come en otra lugar!

I remember when this was a Spanish speaking Church. They did an excellent job turning it into a nice eatery. I haven't eaten lunch here as of yet. Why I have no answer to that question. I have eaten breakfast here numerous times an each time I am pleased. The staff is nice soft spoken in English a little longer in there native language. Now they have a tv in the front an it's always on. I am always drawn to the tv I know why cause I know not what they are saying. Smoothie for those hot days espresso for those hot and cold days. Slices of pie, cake and treats line the front display. All in all it's a nice place to grab a meal.

This spot has been here for a while but I've never tried it until my girlfriend wanted spanish food and decided to check it out since it was the closest place to me. She said it was excellent so I went back to try it myself. The inside is surprisingly pretty compared to the more generic look from the outside. Decent selection of Spanish dishes and pastries. Good sized meals too. I'm stuffed. Try a smoothie. They're great.
