Yaya Tea Newark
250 Central Ave, Newark, NJ
Crema's Take
“Yaya Tea in Newark is a beloved neighborhood gem that seamlessly blends traditional boba and specialty teas like their signature Okinawa Milk Tea with an impressive spread of Asian comfort foods—from crispy rice balls to takoyaki and shrimp tempura udon. The remodeled space radiates warm, welcoming energy that keeps families and friend groups coming back, though you'll want to stick with their tea and classic snacks rather than venturing into their newer fried offerings. It's the kind of place where regulars feel at home and the vibe makes lingering over a drink feel like time well spent.”

I love YaYa tea! A few years back my daughter introduced me to this place and we frequent. I love their chips, rice balls and we recently tried their wings yesterday. My daughter immediately after became sick and a few hours later I became ill, felt as if I was going to faint and began to projectile vomit. We both had the chicken wings. When we had them they seemed very undercooked but the juices ran clear so I didn’t think much of it. I was wrong.
Food is amazing, love the rice balls and drinks that they serve, however be careful eating their new fried chicken. Today my mother and I tried it and both experienced stomachaches, and projectile vomited.
Dined in with a group of friends for boba but was pleasantly surprised at the food selection offered at this store. I ordered a large Okinawa Milk Tea, Shrimp Tempura Udon, and a small Yaya Shrimp (fried shrimp and seaweed) rice ball which totaled around $28. The Okinawa Milk Tea was deliciously sweet, creamy and light with the brown sugar taste. The udon soup along with the noodles were a little plain, however, the shrimp tempuras were crunchy and flavorful. As someone who has never tried a rice ball before, the Yaya Shrimp rice ball tasted succulent and savory and I would definitely order that option along with others if I were to visit again. There was no wait for a table booth that was able to fit our group, we all ate good and a bonus to the staff behind the counter who were both friendly and funny.
My taro tea large tastes like just milk with purple color ,my takoyaki it wasn't a full takoyaki ball it was just half of the takoyaki ball , the tuna onigiri was so dry the tuna ,I am very disappointed because I spent $31 for this
I am absolutely in love with how they remodeled the place I love the vibe I took my daughter for lunch an to see my other daughter who works their and felt the energy while sitting for my order!
