Crema's Take

Archive is a black-owned cultural hub in Charlotte that doubles as a specialty coffee destination, with a beautifully curated retro aesthetic filled with 80s/90s nostalgia, art displays, and vintage finds that make every visit feel like stepping into a lovingly preserved time capsule. Their espresso drinks are thoughtfully crafted with creative signatures like the Foxy Brown oat milk latte, but what really sets them apart is the intentional warmth and hospitality that greets you the moment you walk through the door—this is a space designed for meaningful connection and community, not just quick caffeine fixes. The intimate setting draws people in for lingering conversations and genuine human moments, making it as much about preserving Charlotte's cultural history as it is about serving excellent coffee.

I had an amazing experience at Archive. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the character and history of the space. The atmosphere is warm, beautifully designed, and filled with personality — it’s not just a coffee shop, it’s an experience. The coffee was absolutely outstanding. Perfectly crafted, rich in flavor, and clearly made with care and quality ingredients. Every sip was enjoyable. On top of that, the service was exceptional. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind, making me feel right at home. If you’re looking for incredible coffee, a place with real history and ambiance, and top-tier service, this is it. I will definitely be coming back!

Yesterday, a friend and I visited Archive, and it was such a good experience all around. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with kindness, and the space immediately felt warm and welcoming. The plants, the nostalgia, the overall vibe — it just felt right. I ordered a hot latte with caramel and vanilla syrup, and it was really good. Smooth, not overly sweet, and made perfectly — I didn’t need to add anything to it. My friend ordered a hot latte with Foxy Brown syrup and enjoyed hers just as much. One of my favorite parts was sitting there flipping through Ebony magazines and just taking everything in. I also had a brief conversation with the owner about how she acquired the items in the space, which made the visit feel even more special. When we came in, there was a couple playing checkers, someone reading, and someone else working quietly. It felt like the kind of place you go to slow down — whether you’re meeting a friend, doing some work, or just needing a moment to yourself. I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in town. 10/10 recommend.

I came across The Archive CLT and their statement really caught my attention: “We serve as a cultural hub and café (in that order). Our mission is to preserve and showcase the rich history and lived experience of Black culture.” That alone made me take the long drive to check it out — and it was absolutely worth it. The space is filled with history, intention, and beautiful décor that tells a story the moment you walk in. The coffee was good, but what truly made the visit special was the history and the purpose behind the place. It’s more than just a coffee shop — it’s an experience. Cheers, BN

Super cute black owned coffee shop. As soon as we walked in it was like stepping back into the 80s/90s. The whole spot is a vibe, retro music, art, and print items on display. Space is small and intimate but very welcoming. Tea and coffee were good, however didn't try any of the pastries. I'd highly recommend this space and would go back again.

Love this place! It’s got such a cool, nostalgic vibe. I had the Foxy Brown oat milk latte which was so smooth and flavorful, and my daughter had the mango smoothie which was amazing with a bold, fresh mango taste. We split a slice of locally sourced lemon cake that was perfectly tangy and delicious. The decor is fun and full of history, and my daughter got a kick out of the vintage phones on the tables. Definitely a spot we’ll be coming back to!
