Hot Bennys
300 Canal St, New Orleans, LA
Crema's Take
“Hot Benny's stakes its claim as a parade-day pit stop on Tchoupitoulas Street, where the Mardi Gras chaos swirls around you and a frozen coffee hits different when you need it most. Their cold brew drinks earn genuine praise for bold, icy refreshment, and while the beignets won't match Café Du Monde's legendary status, they deliver crispy-fluffy satisfaction without the tourist mob. It's the kind of place where location and convenience matter as much as the coffee itself—perfect for grabbing something quick and solid when you're caught in the New Orleans whirlwind.”

The best part of Hot Benny’s is how conveniently located it is amongst the chaos of Mardi Gras. Located right across from Caesars and right on Tchoupitoulas St. (where the parade makes a turn), this place offers a quick escape from everything around you. We came in looking to try some beignets and a coffee as well. The shop itself is pretty small but they do have an outdoor area on the other side with tables and seats that’s fenced in so you can catch a glimpse of everything else happening. It has some plants and a fountain giving a kind of serene peace amongst the Mardi Gras chaos. Ordering was quick and easy, but a heads up that they call out your order, not by name, so you have to go in and pick it up. We ordered the beignets and a latte. The latte wasn’t very good, very little foam, even for a latte. The beignets were pretty good though, not the best we’ve had, but in a quick pinch these are very solid options. You can see the parade as it goes down the street if you peek down the alley outside too. Again, this is more of a convenience spot than anything. Being located across from Caesar’s and on the parade turn makes it a great pitstop during Mardi Gras.
Do not waste your money at this place. The beneights are fairly flat, not puffed very well and not much dough in the middle. They don't taste like anything and have an old grease after taste. Between two of us we are 1 and a half before the after taste hit. Threw them out and left. Also, these are $7 for 3.
The beignets were good, but we decided to try the chicory coffee… and that was a fail. Five dollars straight to the trash! That said, the location is convenient, and I really liked the slightly retro vibe of the place.
Hot Benny’s on Canal Street is a gem for a quick NOLA fix! Their frozen coffee was a total game-changer—icy, bold, and woke me right up. The cappuccino was smooth and perfectly frothy, a great morning kick. The beignets? Soft, sugary clouds that melt in your mouth, though I wished they were a tad hotter. The vibe is lively with chill music, and the staff was super friendly, guiding me through the menu. Definitely a spot to hit for a sweet pick-me-up!
Had a craving for beignets after first experiencing them at Cafe Du Monde. Obviously coming here after there, they're not on the same tier, but they were pretty good, crispy and fluffy and would eat again. Prices are higher than other places for the size and you can only pay on card. I don't rate the service at this venue highly.
