Pluma By Bluebird Bakery
391 Morse St NE, Washington, DC
Crema's Take
“This minimalist DC spot excels at what it does best: buttery, flaky croissants and pastries made fresh in-house, paired with solid espresso drinks that shine brightest in traditional preparations like cappuccinos. The intimate space has charm but can feel cramped during busy hours, and service moves at a leisurely pace, so this is better suited for a quick grab-and-go than a lingering sit-down—grab a ham and cheese croissant, skip the hot prepared food, and enjoy it with a well-pulled shot.”

Good place with minimalistic breakfast options and made in place pastries. We’ve been there in Feb and the door was not closing fully so it was pretty cold inside to seat and eat. The utensils are plastic, since they serve coffee in ceramic cups they could have non plastic utensils as well. Pastry was good, but I would not say that it’s blow my mind (I had monkey bread).
Atmosphere is nice. Service is a bit slow. Food was OK - would recommend pastries over hot prepared food. Coffee was good but not outstanding. Espresso was slightly over extracted and a bit sour. Whole bean coffee is for sale from Small Planes coffee - most were roasted within 2 weeks of when we visited Pluma. Everything was overpriced but that seems normal for the Wharf. Worth a try if you are local for a day or two. Would search elsewhere for a daily coffee shop if you live in the area.
Free water no free WiFi. Street parking at the front but not a lot. Take cards and Apple Pay. Take in kind Not much of bakery options Place is not big for in store seating
Saturday around noon, bread and croissants are ok. Coffee unremarkable, service 100% unfriendly, service very slow (we waited even longer because they forgot my dish). I ordered folded egg, it was very salty, as well as the sad side Cesar salad. The A/C in minimum levels during a heat wave. People in the kitchen work slow and inefficient. There’s one big table to sit, that has not been cleaned since the 90s (floor looked quite dirty too). Advice: go for take away bread and run out to the door. Or look for a different bakery nearby
Pluma has some seriously delicious croissants! wonderfully flaky, especially the ham and cheese, and the chicken Caesar Sammy was a hit. My cappuccino was good too, though not exceptional. Unfortunately, the noise level was overwhelming—it was way too loud and packed with people, which made it hard to fully enjoy the experience. If you're looking for a cozy, quiet spot to relax, this might not be the place, but for a quick, tasty bite, the food delivers!
