Dockside
11 Fishermans Wharf, Monterey, CA
Crema's Take
“Dockside is a waterfront spot on Old Fisherman's Wharf where locals genuinely return for fresh oysters and house-made chowder served in sourdough bread bowls, even if the coffee takes a backseat to the seafood. The vibe is casual and family-friendly with a chill front-of-house crew, making it an easy grab for coffee and a snack while strolling the wharf, though quality and pricing can feel inconsistent depending on what you order. It's the kind of place where you'll find your people among the oyster lovers and long-haul travelers looking for something real after a road trip, just maybe skip the sandwiches.”

food is cheap. the only positive. but i wouldnt come back. i ordered the shrimp n crab sandwhich and that was thee saddest looking sandwhich i have had in a loong time. wanted to go to crabby jims, but missed lunch so i tried dockside. i was sadly disappointed in myself for staying and ordering the food. server was on the phone, said hello to a group in front of me, and proceeded to stay on phone while they left. i did not get a greeting from server as he was still on the phone. i spoke up and said what i wanted, he eventually got off the phone and right before he started to make my sandwhich, he had a bit of a coughing attack. i didn't watch but hoped he had washed hands. when it came to pay it was 9 something if using cash or 11 something with card, by this point i just wanted to leave so paid by card. stopped in castroville on the way home and enjoyed phils fish market, and alexandras tostilocos, i highly reccomend!!
Always go here for fresh oysters and coffee. Iunno if Im biased but I like their chowder too. Right at the front and the dude that works the front is always chill n cool.
If I could leave negative stars I would! Was there this weekend with my family and ordered two bread bowls two waters and a juice..30$..I didn’t see him fill up the bread bowls but once we sat down the bowls were full of bread and very little clam chowder! It was very soupy and watery with very little potatoes and clams it was just like a nasty soup…didn’t even finish my whole bowl because it tasted weird within 20 minutes I was cramping sweating and throwing up not to mention the horrible diarrhea for the rest of the day… I will never eat there again it was the most horrible experience I was in pain all day and it ruined my vacation! Save your money and get a bread bowl from a couple places down it’s way better and you actually get clam chowder instead of a bowl of bread!
A great place right on the left side to stop off as you walk onto Old Fisherman's Wharf for cold water, soda, hot coffee, mocha and hot chocolate, a delicious shrimp and oyster cocktail and so much more... before you stroll the Wharf!
A great quick dinner after a long roadtrip to Monterey. We had a sourdough bread bowl with clam chowder that hit the spot the first night we were in Monterey. Reasonably priced, too! On another day, we had shrimp sandwiches - there was too much bread and it was dry. Stick with the clam chowder at this place. It was really good. And the staff are awesome!
