Crema's Take

Tucked inside Idle Hands Brewery in Medford, this espresso-focused café brews intentional pour overs and traditional drinks in a massive, airy space that somehow feels intimate rather than cavernous—perfect for settling in with your laptop or meeting a friend. The staff has clearly built something special here, creating a genuine community hub where you feel the care in both the expertly-made coffee and thoughtfully curated non-coffee options. It's the kind of place that wakes you up not just with caffeine, but with the kind of warmth and authenticity that chain coffee shops simply can't replicate.

Nothing wakes you up quite like the smell of active fermentation at 9 AM. Like a lot of brewery-cafe hybrids, the space is massive and great for working, but because they have an active production facility in the back, the air is thick with the aroma of malt and hops. I didn't mind it, but if you want your morning to smell strictly like roasted beans, wait until patio season opens up. The drinks were a bit of a mad science experiment. I tried the Boggy Brew (hot Guatemalan coffee with a splash of cranberry juice). The tartness completely nuked the coffee's natural nuttiness, which left a funky, unsweetened drink that vaguely bordered on vinegar. The barista did give me a fair warning about the funk and offered a mulligan if I hated it. Paired with a standard sugar cookie (the food menu is basically just cookies and muffins), it balanced out okay. A great workspace overall though.

Amazing staff with a great atmosphere. A true community business you can feel the unity that bleeds from this place. A safe space in a world that needs more of them. Also the drinks are amazing.

If you want a welcoming environment, a tasty coffee, and maybe even a little treat to go with it, this is the place. It's not going to be what you see at every chain coffee shop and that's good by me. They provide a local and more personal experience. I feel like I see new options every time I visit and I love that. Just had their eggnog mist latte...so good! Winter coffee success! They also have a selection of teas, if that's your thing! I haven't actually tried them yet, but I'll certainly get around to some of them in the future. Also, shout out to Idle Hands Brewery for sharing their space with Cafe Reynard! I don't know how it all came to be, but it's really a great utilization of brewery space in otherwise off-hours.

Came here after hearing about it as a local, great roaster. The menu is full but not overextended, non-coffee options are not just teas, and the space itself (inside Idle Hands) was airy but didn't feel awkardly empty with only a few patrons. The staff gave great menu guidance and were lovely. Since we were interested they told us more about their roasting and sourcing, and it was great to share their excitement. So happy we came on a Sunday as that's the day they have incredible donuts. I'm a simple donut kinda guy and my friend likes a fussier one, and both the apple cider donut and red velvet(topped with chunks of brownie) were incredible. I liked the amount of tasting notes and felt like if I wanted more or less help with the menu the staff would have been just as helpful and pleasant. The coffee itself was great, we sat and got to smell other beans, and a woman who was near us said that this was the first coffee she didn't feel the need to temper with and sugar to enjoy. See you again soon, Cafe Reynard

As a non-coffee drinker, I'm sad that I don't get to benefit from what I'm assured is fantastic and expertly-made coffee. But they also have drinks for me! A selection of very high-quality black, green, white, and herbal teas, plus an absolutely incredible chai latte. I know it can be hard for a small coffee place to decide exactly how much to branch out, and I'm very glad they included these. Beyond this, the atmosphere is great, with an excellent mix of people doing their own thing, along with a good level of general liveliness. The baristas have set very high standards for themselves. I ordered at a busy time and Athena apologized for the lateness about getting me my drink, but I felt like I'd barely waited at all! Quite good service. I wish they were closer to me, and will absolutely be by whenever I'm in the area and sometimes when I otherwise wouldn't be!
