Crema's Take

Filter is a downtown Birmingham sanctuary where espresso craftsmanship takes center stage, drawing consistent praise for never serving a bad cup regardless of what you order. The multi-level space strikes that rare balance of being serious enough for coffee enthusiasts who appreciate their pour-overs and single-origin selections, yet welcoming enough for folks to camp out with their laptop or linger over a spinach and feta quiche with friends. There's a genuine warmth here—both in the consistently excellent service and the cozy atmosphere—that keeps locals returning and makes visitors feel like they've discovered a hidden gem in the Five Points area.

Went to get an americano and wanted to try their Ethiopian beans; however, you are only allowed espresso beans for one. Why have a bean selection if I can't choose them for my coffee? I went across the street and got an amazing americano.

I love Filter. It is my go-to place to get a good coffee. I have never, ever, had a bad coffee here. The atmosphere is nice and they have everything a good coffee shop downtown needs: good coffee, great service, free WiFi, free parking, and good baked goods. I will always recommend stopping by for a good drink or caffeine fix.

COZY! I am not from here, I stopped by here because I love coffee. Originally from Orlando and for vacation I am spending it in Alabama before life stirs me away from enjoying it. The service was quick and easy. I appreciate the patience as I was also unfamiliar with the menu being that places offer different types of coffee and I never looked over it before hand. I see why there’s allot of locals here, it’s very inviting.

I went here to study the other weekend and was not disappointed! The spinach and feta quiche and the vanilla latte were outstanding. Also there is plenty of seating for studying upstairs and downstairs. I also loved that they were displaying art from a local high school in the upstairs space. I will definitely be back to the other latte and pastry options!

This place has wonderful coffee, wonderful staff, and a super welcoming ambience/environment. Very nice and easy to do work there as well. It is conveniently in down town Birmingham at the five points area that is a good area with restraints and other things close to walk to! They have a great variety of food as well! I gave 4 stars instead of five because the coffee was good but it didn’t wow me. I will probably go back and get one of their more specialty signature drinks and edit the review then.
