Crema's Take

This independent Detroit gem does everything from scratch daily, from their legendary breakfast sandwiches that have people craving them the next morning to buttery croissant-based pastries like their signature lemon clouds and cherry cream cheese danish. Beyond the impeccable food and coffee, The Mug wraps you in genuine warmth—kind owners, amazing staff, and a cozy interior decorated with local artists' work that makes you want to linger with a good book. Fair warning: arrive early, because their made-to-order magic doesn't stick around long after the 8 a.m. opening.

My partner and I are OBSESSED w their breakfast sandwiches. Good coffee, plus they have comfy seating and good books, plus gorgeous art for sale on the walls, plus the staff are amazing — the owners built this place as a gathering spot for the neighborhood.

The Mug is such a gem! Everyone was so kind and friendly, and my breakfast sandwich was amazing — I woke up the next morning craving it. Definitely a new favorite spot in Detroit!

Great coffees, pastries, sandwiches and nibbles in a truly independent small business, with great art from local artists on the walls. A few picnic tables under a canopy outside and nice seating inside including tables and chairs along with a few sofas for those who want to relax more. Classy music too. This place makes me feel good to be here. A neighborhood treasure in the making, I'd say. Chatty and charming locals add to the experience. My latte was perfect.

EVERYTHING IS MADE FROM SCRATCH THE DAY OF!!! The pastries here are absolutely delicious! Especially the Cherry and Cream Cheese Danish! The crust is that of a croissant and the filling has the perfect amount of sweetness! The atmosphere has good vibes, and the workers (Owners) are amazing!

Triple crown experience... right here! The people, the food, the price. It's fantastic! Opens at 8:00, closes at 1:00. The pastries don't last long, so get here early. Lemon clouds are signature, cherry cheese Danish... MAAAN. Savory pastries and sandwiches. This is a community oriented establishment. Local artist featured... the play the best music.
