Crema's Take

This Newark gem brings authentic Portuguese pastry craftsmanship to New Jersey, with pastéis de nata that rival what you'd find in Lisbon itself—featuring shatteringly crisp, perfectly blistered shells that more than make up for a custard that leans eggy rather than creamy. Beyond the pastries, they offer a warm, welcoming atmosphere and fresh-squeezed orange juice made on a proper machine, plus other Portuguese specialties like their celebrated Bola that keeps customers coming back. Fair warning: there's some inconsistency with pricing visibility and occasional customer service hiccups, but when the pastries are this good, many visitors overlook the rough edges.

Pastel de nata crust is insanely crispy, so many flaky layers, beautifully blistered tops. However their custard isn't so creamy, it's more eggy like a Chinese tart. Edit - Now they even sell them in the little boxes of 6 like in Lisbon!

The best pastel de nata I've had outside of Portugal and they have a great selection of other Portuguese pastries as well. They also have a proper orange juice machine like the ones that are ubiquitous in Portugal. I highly recommend!

I’m giving a once star because one of the employees tried to say I was recording them. When I asked who allegedly saw me, they said she left. Then they tried to say I can’t have my phone in my hand when in the register cause that could be me trying to steal. I use Apple Pay all the time and never had problems anywhere. Other than that the paste ties are always great but certain staff is very rude.

Reason I am giving this only 1 stars is because.....well...you don't know how much any one item costs. There are literally no prices to be found anywhere!!! Take a look at the pictures, in my opinion this is not acceptable. Prices should be posted on all items being sold so you can make informed decisions.
