Crema's Take

Lowertown Bar & Cafe has carved out a beloved corner in Ann Arbor's community with genuinely excellent Hyperion coffee, thoughtful minimalist design, and a welcoming vibe that shifts seamlessly from cozy daytime refuge to evening gathering spot. The spacious, accessible interior and carefully curated atmosphere make it equally perfect for solo work sessions, neighborhood trivia nights on Tuesdays, or simply lingering over a refill between outdoor adventures. It's the kind of place that feels both polished and genuinely warm—where regulars and newcomers alike find themselves coming back for the coffee, the energy, and that rare sense of belonging.

This is a wonderful cafe with a very comfortable, inviting atmosphere! I love attending trivia nights on Tuesdays, the service has always been excellent, and it's especially cozy in the fall out on the patio.

A neighbor of mine told me they serve Hyperion coffee here so I made a special trip. I was not disappointed. The coffee was exactly like I expected plenty of seating, good music and a friendly clientele. I only wish it was closer as I would make it a regular stop.

I love how they have transformed this corner into a nice little community spot. I most recently stopped by for a coffee refill, while on a hike through Bird Hills, Barton Nature Area, Bandemer, & Argo parks. They’ve got some nice, simple, delicious treats there as well, along with beer, wine, and cocktails. It’s really nice there in the summer, with plenty of outdoor seating, especially when DJ BATZ (House Music For All) gets to spin vinyl! I wish they could work something out for some parking, with the neighboring property, formerly known as Broadway Party Store. Better yet, I hope that Lowertown buys and renovates that historic building, in order to expand their business! That would add significance for their business, as well as to this original part of Ann Arbor.

This is one of my favorite places to be in Ann Arbor, because of the atmosphere! And another set of 5 stars for the accessible enterances, seating and bathrooms. The coffee is great, and at night there are creative, delicious cocktails, mocktails and beer that your pretensious IPA-drinking boyfriend will approve of. There's lots of outdoor seating, with firepits, rain coverage and heat lamps. There is almost always a foodtruck parked by the outside enterance from 6pm onward. And btw this is the place to go if you're in your 30s or 40s and need to make some friends while avoiding the undergrads.

Lowertown is the up-and-coming bar and coffee shop to open in Ann Arbor. Cafe by day and Bar by night, the ambience is welcoming with a lot of natural sunlight and minimalist yet aesthetic decor. The service was great, and the Cappuccino and Americano were excellent. I asked for Matcha in water, and unfortunately the proportions weren't right, and the drink felt a bit too strong and bitter. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our visit and look forward to being back.
